The Dangers of Crossing the Road

I'll admit, at times I'm not the best person at crossing roads in the UK as I sometimes get a little distracted looking at something (probably because I am an observant person) but here it is even worse...

Traffic lights

Not only are the vehicles driving on the opposite side of the road, the crossing systems are confusing at times and even when the green man shows, cars seem to continue driving if no one is crossing the road. On some roads, the crossing has a hand sensor that you hold your hand up to until it lights up to signal that pedestrians want to cross. I think this is quite a good idea but unfortunately not all of the crossings have these sensors.

It is also difficult to cross the roads where there are tram lines. There are lit up sensors on the ground that go red when a tram is coming and green when the road is clear but if you are not looking you may not realise. The trams do make noises though as well so it is pretty obvious when one is coming towards you. I'm looking forward to riding on a tram, they are so thin compared to ones I have seen in other countries before. I think they are quite similar to one I went on in Dublin but they are of brighter colours, red and white, which reflect the Polish flag.

To summarise, one of the most important lessons I have learnt so far about Polish culture is to make sure I take extra care when crossing the road.
